We are Yana Dennis

Who are we?

We are Yana and Dennis. A young couple from Ghent (Belgium). We like to travel, do odd jobs (read: mess around sometimes) and both work on a freelance basis in the film industry. In addition, we try to be “on the road” as much as possible and we like to share all our adventures and experiences with other vanlifers.

We love meeting new people and driving our “Debie” through mountains and forests. When we travel, you're more likely to find us on a lake somewhere in the middle of nature than in the center of Madrid.

Who is Debie?

Debie is a lovingly converted Mercedes Sprinter. In 2019 we decided to convert this gardener's van into a beautiful house-on-wheels. After about 6 months of building (between our work assignments) we took our Greek-decorated Debie on her first trip to, yes you guessed it: Greece!

Did you know Debie is pronounced Deb(b)ie. Indeed, our van is a Greek lady! Debie is the surname of the previous owner of our sprinter. After some (professional) scratching, we only left 'Debie' in terms of lettering. We already did the same concept with our previous van 'Gunther', a converted painter's van!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where did the name "Debie" come from?

Debie's name was not invented by us. The bus belonged to a previous gardener: Dirk Debie, his name and company were stickered on the bus. When buying the bus it immediately became clear to us that we could give our bus its own name with Dirk's last name. Recycle is the best cycle!

How long did you work on the conversion?

We built our bus between work, in total this took about 6 months. in reality we spent about 65 days working on our Debie. The works started in February and mainly continued in a local shed at Yana's parental home.

What are Debie's specifications?

Debie is a 2009 Mercedes Sprinter 313CDI L2H2.

how big is your bed?

Our bed is a fixed 172cm x140cm bed. Not ideal for tall people, but certainly feasible for us. People have also traveled with them who are more than 1m90, without any problem, if you lie a bit diagonally it certainly works! By making a bed in the width, you get a lot of extra space in other parts of the bus.

Why did you choose an L2 bus?

Our Debie is rather compact in the world of motorhomes. With its 6 meters length, it just fits in a normal parking space, something that is certainly not unimportant on long trips! The shorter wheelbase also makes our bus a bit more capable on rough terrain.

What about diesel consumption?

Our Debie consumes about 11l/100 km, this sometimes goes up to 12a 13l/100km in mountainous areas.
